E.ON’s latest wind plant off the coast of Denmark is now operating in the Baltic Sea after its 90 component Siemens turbines were erected six weeks ahead of schedule.

The company said it will use power from the Rødsand II project, which incorporates an array of Siemens’ 2.3MW most popular turbine model, to supply over 200,000 Danish households.
The project represents the fulfilment of the order that Germany-based E.ON placed with Siemens in 2008 and with an installed capacity of 207MW is one of the largest offshore wind plants in the world.
It lies two miles east of the Rødsand I offshore wind project, another large-scale project that was commissioned by Dong Energy and has been in operation for seven years.
‘In the last 19 years we’ve put up 16 offshore wind parks totalling over 500 wind turbines, all of which are running reliably and successfully,’ said Jens-Peter Saul, CEO of the Siemens Wind Power business unit.
The next milestone in the cooperation between E.ON and Siemens will be construction of the London Array off the coast of Great Britain as announced in May 2009, which will be the world’s first gigawatt offshore wind plant.
To be developed by a consortium including E.ON, Dong and Masdar Power, the London Array will incorporate 175 of Siemens’ high powered 3.6MW turbines.
