Danish wind energy company Vestas has received an order for 56 turbines from Australian power supplier Hydro Tasmania.
The units have a combined capacity of 168MW and will be used on a development called the Musselroe Wind Farm, at Cape Portland in north-east Tasmania. The contract is for supply and installation as well as a ten-year service agreement. Delivery is expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2012, with the facility scheduled to be operational in June 2013.
So far this year Vestas has received orders for turbines with a combined capacity of 5,533MW. However, results have not been as good as expected and last month the company informed staff that it will implement a strategy to reduce fixed costs by €150m annually by the end of next year, redundancies will be included in the cost saving measures.
