Canadian energy company Northland Power has signed a module supply agreement with photovoltaic (PV) manufacturer MEMC for panels to be used in a 130MW project portfolio.
Northland has committed to investing C$600m ($585m) into ground-mounted solar arrays in the province of Ontario, one of the largest investments for the sector in the region. Modules will be manufactured at MEMC's production facility in Newmarket, Ontario. The projects are expected to create 700 engineering and construction jobs.
John Brace, president and CEO of Northland Power, said, 'Northland's significant investment in ground-mounted solar builds on our 25-year history of being an innovative and entrepreneurial energy generator in Ontario. We are pleased to be partnering with MEMC because of their commitment to high quality standards, and their demonstrated willingness to invest in Ontario for the long-term.'
Ontario is a cleantech hotbed and just this month Renewable Energy Systems completed installation on a 99MW wind farm on the north shore of Lake Superior and Nautilus Solar Energy completed three PV arrays on rooftops in the province.
