Engineering major Ballast Nedam is to supply its heavy lift vessel Svanen at the London Array Offshore Wind Farm from towards the end of August.

Svanen will perform its services in addition to the installation vessels currently installing foundations for the first phase of the project

The London Array project is being constructed in the outer Thames Estuary and at 1,000MW, it is the world's largest consented offshore wind farm.

The vessel Svanvan will in November proceed to Denmark to start installing foundations for the 111-turbine Anholt offshore wind farm.

The ship has already had an active first half to the year, and by serving as the installation base for 51 foundations for the Walney 2 Offshore Wind Farm in the Irish Sea.

'The prospects for acquiring offshore wind turbine projects and deployment of the heavy lift vessel Svanen continue to be good for the next few years,' Ballast Nedam said in a statement.

London Array is being built around 20km off the coasts of Kent and Essex, with Phase including 175 turbines with a combined capacity of 630MW.

If approved, the second phase will add enough capacity to bring the total to 1,000MW.

The project is majority owned by Dong Energy with a 50 per cent stake while E.ON has a 30 per cent holding and Masdar a 20 per cent stake.
