Spanish energy company Iberdrola has commissioned wind farms in Poland and Cyprus with a combined capacity of 40MW. It has now installed 8GW of renewable facilities in Europe and 13GW globally.
The 20MW Aghia Anna project in Cyprus was commissioned by Greek subsidiary Rokas and is the third wind development in the country. The 24MW Bystra wind farm in Poland brings Iberdrola's installed capacity in the country to 184MW or 17 per cent of the Polish wind market.
Iberdrola has a renewable project pipeline in Eastern Europe with a capacity of 4.5GW including a plan for the Constanza area of Romania made up of several facilities with a combined capacity of 1.5GW. It has started on phase one of the project the 80MW Mihai Viteazu plant due to be operational later this year. Throughout Europe the company has renewable projects planned with a total capacity of 35GW.
It has also entered a new market in the Asturias region of north-west Spain with the acquisition of the Candal and Segregal projects. The two proposed sites have a combined capacity of 78MW and are scheduled to be operational by 2012. Iberdrola also purchased two wind farms in the Catalan, Spain with a combined 50MW capacity, these are already operational.
Last month, Iberdrola announced first year earnings of €1.56bn, a 6.6 per cent increase on last year.
