Gestamp Wind North America has purchased two wind farms in Maryland, US, for $130m. The facilities at Roth Rock have a combined capacity of 50MW and utilise 20 turbines. The site has been connected to the grid and 80 per cent of electricity generated will be sold to utility Delmarva through a 20-year purchase power agreement. The remainder will be sold to Maryland University and the State General Service Department.
Javier Mateache, CEO of Gestamp Wind North America, said, 'This project is very important for the success in the achievement of the strategic goals defined in our company. With the starting of the operation of this second wind farm in USA, Gestamp Wind consolidates its position as one of the leaders in the production of independent energy within the north American market.'
With this purchase Gestmap now operates 110MW in the US and has 1GW in development or construction stages. In February Gestmap purchased a 60MW wind development in Nebraska and announced plans to build a solar panel manufacturing plant in Arizona.
