There is still a lot of work to be done to meet the objectives of The Crown Estate’s Round 3 licensing round despite the progress made so far, a representative from the UK landowner said.

The Crown Estate, which is responsible for the UK’s coastal waters, will aim for one quarter of the UK’s electricity demands to be met by offshore wind by 2020.
Adrian Fox, supply chain manager at The Crown Estate, said the particular focus of the licensing round will be on meeting renewable energy targets and creating green jobs.
Round 3 will see a mammoth 32GW of offshore wind capacity developed, bringing the total in UK waters to 48GW.
Fox revealed at yesterday’s Wind Energy Business Forum that in 2010 the principle area of investment in the supply chain was into vessels with £860m spent.
Areas for opportunity are both the HVDC/cable connections and the towers, in which just £36m and £39m of investment was witnessed across 2010.
