Swedish renewable energy project developer Vattenfall said power generation at the Ormonde offshore wind farm it is building in the Irish Sea is months away from realisation.

Towards this aim, it has already completed the engineering of a 42km cable that will export electricity from the Ormonde offshore wind farm to the National Grid.
The cable will connect 30 wind turbines at the Ormonde offshore wind farm off the coast of Barrow-in-Furness in Ireland to the Heysham onshore substation.
Over a third of the wind turbines for the wind farm have already been deployed and engineers are expected to energise the turbines once the cables linking the substations are laid.
Vattenfall project manager Matthew Green said, ‘Vattenfall’s Ormonde offshore wind farm is on schedule to deliver power to the grid later this year and the completion of the 42km export cable is a crucial landmark for the scheme because without it we could never deliver green power to people’s homes.’
