Power major Siemens has worked with European power company Dong Energy to establish a common control system across all of its 85 sites in Denmark.

With its new consolidated renewable energy control capabilities, Dong said it has targeted becoming the major power supplier to all parts of northern Europe.
The project included the replacement of old systems in addition to the implementation of new control systems at the power company’s sites, also installing a facility to interface with Dong’s data systems.
Siemens developed two applications tailored specifically for Dong Energy to provide its control capabilities with ‘muster station’ functionality and a feature to save on day-to-day operations, the company said.
The business relationship between the companies has seen Dong order up to 90 wind turbines from Siemens Energy for its project off the coast of Germany in the North Sea earlier this year. Their partnership has also seen Siemens secure the service contract on the system for three years.
Dong produces more than half of Denmark’s power and close to 40 per cent of its heat through producing, distributing and selling energy and related products through wind farms and traditional power across Europe.
The public company said it will establish a common access control system across all of its sites in Denmark to increase the security level and ensure easy access to its renewable power.
The new control system includes thousands of smart and proximity cards, door controllers, readers and proximity coupling devices. It also includes smaller substations and is teamed with additional scalable bases in Denmark.
