Wind installations in Inner Mongolia, which leads China in terms of wind farms, will top 13GW by the end of the year, according to an executive with the local grid company.
Zhang Fusheng, general manager of Inner Mongolia Power, told an industry conference in Beijing that the region, in northern China, could have 30GW installed by 2015 and 50GW by 2020.
That compares to 41.8GW currently installed in the whole of China, of which only 22.9GW is so far connected to the grid.
China already has more wind power than any other country, having overtaken the US last year. A recent report by the Pew Charitable Trusts also found that China invested more in renewable energy than any other country.
