Europe-focused wind project developer Greenfield Wind has secured €1m in funding from seed investor funds and high new worth individuals.

Its partner Environmental Investment Partners III, a seed stage investor in environmental and renewable companies in central Europe, said it expects the company to raise a future round from private equity funds with an interest in wind in Poland.
Their partnering business model aims is to develop a 500MW wind power project through the partnering model and incrementally add development to the portfolio until the end of 2015. The ‘built-to-suit’ partnering model utilises Greenfield Wind’s strong track record in early state development.
Greenfield said that by focusing on early stage development and mitigating the risks associated with these stages, as well as partnering with international players, it has attracted a high level of market interest.
Since 2009, Greenfield Wind has focused on projects in Poland based on a track-record from the wind power market in Nordic and Central and Eastern Europe.
The company also has an ongoing development partnership with Italian energy company Relight and aims to have 300MW in partnered developments by the end of 2011. Relight provided development financing under the partnership.
Greenfield Wind CEO Peter Hogren said, ‘[I am] pleased to see additional investors coming into the company – all of which are knowledgeable about wind – and thus giving us in management confidence that our business model has been endorsed.’
