Boston-based renewable energy developer BlueWave Capital is reportedly about to enter negotiations with the town of Amherst to construct a solar project that could meet most of the municipality’s power needs.

The town is said to be mulling over a solar installation that could save it $25m in energy costs over the next 30 years.
Amherst town head John Mustante is expected to enter talks with the renewable power developer imminently over the potential large-scale installation of solar by early 2012.
He is expected to give the green light to a 4.75MW photovoltaic array at a landfill site in Amherst that BlueWave estimates will cut the town’s carbon emissions by 6,000 tons each year.
The solar installation would need to secure a state permit from the Department of Environmental Protection and local permits before it can go ahead.
The town is expected to convene to discuss entering a long-term contract with BlueWave within the next few months.
