Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP), the nation’s largest utility, has partnered with SolarWorld, a provider of crystalline solar power technology, to develop 11.6MW solar system.

LADWP will install and operate system while SolarWorld will supply engineering and high-performance solar panels and balance-of-system components.
The project will power 85,850 homes, replacing 290,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide over 25 years.
Work started in February at LADWP’s existing Adelanto Switching and Convertor Station, 65 miles outside of Los Angeles.
The Adelanto station serves as southern terminus of LADWP’s Southern Transmission System, which links Southern California with renewable energy wind farms and the Intermountain Power Project in Utah.
Engineering is now underway at the plant as project designs have already been delivered and soil testing concluded.
The system will feature interconnection into a critical bulk-grid substation, efficient, leading-edge 1,000-volt solar power system, and SolarWorld Sunfix ground-mount systems.
SolarWorld will also supply LADWP with engineering expertise at their Camarillo operations.
During the first year, the project will generate 22,440MWh during first year and 515,700MWh over a 25-year period.
