A Brazilian developer of wind and solar power projects has reportedly signed a deal with General Electric (GE) for it supply wind turbines in $840m transaction.
According to the Wall Street Journal, Bioenergy is to buy 18 turbines in 2011 and a further 36 turbines in 2012. In addition, there is an option to acquire up to 250 turbines in 2013.
The company is thought to have 1.4GW of wind farm projects online and will see all power produced from these new turbines on the free market.
Last month, the US power and technology giant cemented its leadership in the wind turbine business and installed its 15,000th 1.5MW model.
In addition, it has recently acquired what it described as next-generation technology in the wind turbine tower space through the buy-out of Wind Tower Systems.
It said the need for taller, cost-efficient towers is becoming an important factor in the wind industry as blade lengths increase and was therefore keen to carry out the strategic acquisition.
