Munich Re has paved the way to ease investments into wind farms by creating the first insurance of its kind for a Germany-based client.
Munich Re said it will insure the guarantees that wind project developer Fuhrländer is giving to its customers.
By underwriting risks in the renewable energies sector, Munch Re said it is helping to facilitate investment and paving the way for future technologies to enter the market.
Fuhrländer gives buyers of its wind turbines, up to 2.5MW in size, a five year technical guarantee in corresponding service contracts. By having Munich Re’s support, Fuhrländer can further develop its business and increase its creditworthiness, it saud.
Joachim Fuhrländer, chairman of the board, said, ‘This investment security underscores the reliability of our technology and is a token of our true customer orientation.’
Munich Re entered the renewable energy sector when it began providing performance guarantees for photovoltaic installations.
Thomas Blunck, a member of Munich Re’s management board, said, ‘We are very pleased that, in Fuhrländer, we have been able to win the first customer for innovative covers of this type in the windenergy sector.
‘Munich Re is thus again the pioneering force in the market, after having also been the first to offer performance guarantee covers for photovoltaic products.’
