China-headquartered solar manufacturer LDK Solar has expanded its annual wafer production capacity to 3GW just weeks after entering into a three-year wafer supply agreement with Lu’an Group’s solar subsidiary.
Earlier this month, LDK Solar entered into an agreement that will see it supply 120MW of solar wafers to Shanxi Lu’an Photovoltaic Power until early 2013.
Having hit its 3GW annual capacity target at its wafer plants; the vertically-integrated solar ingot, wafer, module and cell manufacturer claims to have taken the global lead in solar wafer manufacturing.
LDK Solar’s founder and CEO Xiaofeng Peng said, ‘This achievement positions the company to continue to capitalise on the demand for its photovoltaic (PV) products.’
Debt exchange
The achievement comes one month after the company announced plans to offer a cash pay-out to its senior debt note-holders instead of refinancing under its original debt terms.
Last week the company revealed that a proportion of its existing convertible senior secure debt notes totalling nearly $32m will be exchanged for a newly-issued class of debt note in a transaction that is expected to be settled today.
The holders of these notes are also set to get a cash sweetener of up to $100 for each $1,000 portion of notes exchanged in the transaction, which is being handled by The Bank of New York Mellon.
LDK Solar generated $675.6m in revenues during the third quarter of fiscal 2010, which was the highest result in the company’s history. In addition to manufacturing, the company said it also engages in limited solar project development activities in selected segments of the PV market.
