Electronics giant Sharp plans to roll-out a newly-developed high efficiency single crystalline solar cell by the end of the year.
The company said it will begin mass production of the solar cell and modules at an annual production capacity of 200MW at its solar cell plant in Sakai City in Osaka Prefecture in Japan.
Its solar cell uses a back contact structure whereby electrodes are connected on the back side, eliminating the need for electrodes to be set on the front, which the company said increases the light receiving surface area of the cell.
It simultaneously developed an alignment technology that reduces the connection resistance between adjacent cells, which it said has a broad range of applications in the global market including potential residential and industrial use.
