Wind turbine designer and manufacturer Gamesa has signed an agreement with European wind power producer Eolia Renovables to jointly develop several wind energy projects in Mexico.
The deal calls for turnkey construction of the wind farms with Gamesa supplying all of the 162 turbines to equip the Eoliatec del Istmo and Eoliatec del Pacifico projects in the state of Oaxaca. The projects will have a combined capacity of 324MW.
The new contract with Eolia aids in expanding Gamesa’s presence in Latin America, where it already has 200MW of wind energy installed in five counties.
Also in Mexico, Gamesa this year signed a ten year agreement to supply 100 per cent of the turbines for wind farms planned in Baja California, a combined installed capacity of 1,000MW.
Work on the new project is planned to start immediately with the turbines scheduled for delivery between 2011 and 2013.
