Siemens has set a target of generating €40bn in revenue by 2014 through its green technologies.

This means the conglomerate will need to increase its revenues from its Environmental Portfolio by more than a third over the next three-and-a-half years.
Its Environmental Portfolio revenues reached €28bn in fiscal 2010, but this indicated only a slight increment on the nearly €27bn in revenues it generated in fiscal 2009.
Siemens has, however, already exceeded the €25bn it had planned to generate in revenue during fiscal 2011.
It included the latest generation of high-efficiency transformers in its green portfolio for the first time in 2010, sales of which it hopes will peak in years to come.
‘Green innovations are our lifeblood. We’re the largest supplier of environmental technologies in the world. We want to – and we will – increase our advantage over our most important competitors,’ said Siemens’ Environmental Portfolio managing board member Barbara Kux.
Almost every division of the company’s three business sectors of industry, energy and healthcare, contributes to its green portfolio. It is involved in the production of efficient combined-cycle power plants, wind farms, eco-friendly trains, efficient lighting and power plant retrofitting.
Siemens said it anticipates that smart grid and key components will be its future growth drivers, anticipating orders from these areas to hit €6bn by the end of 2014.
Siemens is set to create an option for connecting meters made by a variety of manufacturers with its AMIS smart metering system through its opening its distribution line carrier (DLC) communication protocol for public use in January.
This month it partnered with smart meter manufacturer EMH in the lead-up to making its meter data communication protocol AMIS DLC available to the public in January.
The partnership aims to connect EMH’s smat meters to Siemens’ automated smart metering and information system AMIS to offer all-round smart metering solutions in the future.
