Poland’s Nekla wind farm has gone live and consists of 21 units provided by GE for the Polish subsidiary of E.ON, which has as capacity of 50MW delivered from GE’s 2.5-100 technology. This development also marks a debut for the technology in Poland.

Poland appears to be set to become a new wind destination, as good wind conditions mixed with a favourable regulatory regime has seen developers continue to compete to take up projects. This clearly bodes well for the countries attempt to gain up to 15 per cent of its power from renewable resources by 2020. The comments from GE mark a seal of approval for the country.
‘With its excellent wind conditions and favourable regulations, Poland is one of the most promising wind energy countries in Europe,’ said Ricardo Cordoba, president of GE Energy Western Europe & North Africa.
The new technology now being used by Poland, has already been deployed across Europe by GE, in Romania, France and Holland and even in non EU Turkey. Total deployment is nearly 200 units, and has already managed to compile more than 1 million operating units. The technology has evolved from the earlier GE’s 1.5MW design which GE claims is the most widely applied MW model in the world currently registered at over 14,000 units.
