Infrastructure-focused private equity firm Starwood Energy said its affiliate has reached financial close on a 30MW solar plant in the Canadian province of Ontario.

The exact terms of the deal have not been disclosed but the project construction financing and long-term loan facility is being jointly-provided by Norddeutsche Landesbank Girozentrale and KfW IPEX-Bank.
Starwood SSM2 Canada, which will consist of 10MW solar photovoltaic (PV) power generation projects, is contracted under Ontario Power Authority’s Renewable Energy Standard Offer Program.
The project comes on the back of Starwood Energy’s 20MW AC Starwood SSM1 solar plant, which closed financing in December 2009 and will complete in the near future.
The project is due to be constructed by PV developer Q-Cells North America on a turnkey basis, providing operations and maintenance services post-completion.
Starwood Energy’s affiliate acquired the project in June from Pod Generating Group, which develops community-scale solar power generating facilities.
The company said equity financing for Starwood SSM2 will be provided by Starwood Energy Infrastructure Fund and its affliates.
