The UK is committed to attracting international investment into its domestic cleantech sector to meet emissions targets and climate change goals, according to Mark Prisk, Minister for Business and Enterprise.

Prisk said the UK’s Low Carbon Transition Plan will aim to generate £450m of investment for renewable and clean energy technologies and will look to international investors to provide a share of this.
‘Any company choosing to come to Britain will be able to tap into a wealth of innovation,’ he said.
Speaking at an event aimed at furthering the collaboration between the cleantech sectors in Finland and UK, Prisk was joined by Paavo Väyrynen, Finland’s Minister for Foreign Trade and Development.
‘Finland industrialised rapidly in the 20th century, has scarce natural resources and a cold climate; all factors that made us strive for energy efficiencies.’
Prisk said a government strategy going forward will make sure potential investors understand the UK is ‘open for business’.
‘The UK is already one of the largest markets in the world for low-carbon goods and services, and there are already Finnish investors working here.’
The UK’s environmental services and goods market is the sixth largest in the world and by 2015 the government aims for it to be employing 1.2 million people, with 50,000 people finding green jobs by 2050 in the wave and tidal sectors alone.
‘We are working with businesses to overcome the challenges and grab the opportunities,’ Prisk said.
