Sino-U.S. ties enjoy important opportunity for further development

China and the United States are enjoying an important opportunity for the further development of their bilateral relations, Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi said here Monday.

The statement came as he was meeting with U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on the sidelines of the high-level UN meeting on the Millennium Development Goals, which opened here Monday at the UN headquarters.
China and the United States have recently maintained close communication with each other, and the general development of the bilateral relations is good, Yang said, adding that in the next phase, the two countries are faced with an important opportunity for the further development of their bilateral ties.
China is ready to work with the United States to earnestly implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, strengthen bilateral contacts at all levels, deepen bilateral dialogue, exchange and cooperate in all fields, deal with the differences and sensitive issues in a cautious and appropriate manner and promote the continuous and steady advancement of Sino-U.S. relations, he said.
For her part, Clinton said that the sound relations between China and the United States are very important to the two countries and the whole world as well.
China and the United States have a lot of common interests, and the United States is willing to continue bilateral contacts on all levels, deepen bilateral dialogue and cooperation in all fields, and to work together to tackle global challenges, including climate change, and promote the continuous development of bilateral ties, she said.
Yang and Clinton also exchanged views on international and regional issues of common concern.
Also on Monday, Yang met with Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu and Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki.
During his meeting with his Turkish counterpart, Yang said that over the recent years, China and Turkey have made great strides forward in their friendship and cooperation in such fields as politics, the economy and culture.
Yang voiced his hope that the two sides will continue to maintain high-level contacts, strengthen bilateral communication and coordination, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation and promote an all-around and healthy development of bilateral relations.
Davutoglu said that Turkey attaches great importance to its ties with China, and is ready to further the bilateral cooperation of mutual benefit in all fields and the coordination and cooperation in international and regional affairs.
During his meeting with Mottaki, Yang said China and Iran are maintaining a good momentum in developing bilateral ties, and have very productive cooperation in various sectors.
China is ready to work with Iran to further deepen pragmatic cooperation in all fields and further promote bilateral relations, the Chinese minister said.
Mottaki spoke highly of the development of Iran-China relations, saying that Iran is ready to further expand its cooperation with China in the fields of economy, trade and energy.
