US wind power storms into Q1
More new wind energy capacity was installed in the first quarter of 2011 in the US than in the industry’s first five teething years combined, the American Wind Energy Association’s (AWEA) latest analysis has highlighted. The figure shows renewed confidence in the technology after the amount of wind power commissioned in 2010 was just half that seen the previous year. |

enXco closes $3.5bn financing for Lakefield wind farm
US renewable energy developer enXco, an EDF Energies Nouvelles company, has closed $3.5bn in financing for its 205MW Lakefield wind project in Minnesota, which includes the largest leveraged lease transaction carried out with commercial lenders in the US. |

Solar company Yingli Green Energy issues $212m of medium-term notes
Solar energy company Yingli Green Energy, one of the world’s largest vertically integrated photovoltaic manufacturers, has completed its issuance of the second tranche 1.4 billion ($212.1m) RMB-denominated unsecured five-year medium-term notes, through one of its subsidiaries, Baoding Tianwei Yingli New Energy Resources. The second tranche issue bears a fixed annual interest of 6.15 per cent. |
