Integrated French solar company Solairedirect has raised €80m for the further development of its solar projects in France and abroad. The company also claims that they have reduced the production cost (levelised cost of electricity) to an unprecedented €0.154/KWh produced. |

France’s Tenesol creates joint venture with AGC in solar glass production
France’s Tenesol, a global solar power provider, has engaged in a joint venture with AGC Vertal Sud-Est in Lyon, with an agreement to produce BIPV crystalline SI modules, starting in 2011. AGC, an established glass maker will produce customised laminated glass modules from specifications provided by Tenesol. |

UK renewable energy generation drops more than a tenth
The UK’s total electricity supply from renewable sources in the second quarter of 2010 fell by 12.1 per cent compared to the comparative quarter of 2009, according to figures published by the UK Department for Energy and Climate Change (DECC). |

Mecasolar opens Canada manufacturing plant
Spain-headquartered solar tracker manufacturer Mecasolar has opened a new manufacturing facility in the Canadian city of Wallaceburg in Ontario, adding to its existing factories in California, Greece and Spain. |

Investing in Energy Efficiency Pays
The Center for Neighborhood Technology (CNT) conducted a post-occupancy study of 25 LEED commercial projects in Illinois and just published the first round of results from their research. The Regional Green Building Case Study Project is one of the first post-occupancy studies to measure energy performance, greenhouse gases emissions, water use, transportation effects, construction and occupancy costs, health benefits, and occupancy comfort on a regional scale. Although CNT found that some LEED projects perform better than others, they also determined that investing in energy efficiency pays off. |
