Solar Frontier’s 900MW plant reaches full capacity
Japanese photovoltaic (PV) developer Solar Frontier has announced that its flagship manufacturing plant has now reached full commercial operation and is on track to produce 900MW of solar modules this year. |

IKEA purchases UK wind farm
Swedish furniture retailer IKEA’s UK division has acquired a 12.3MW wind farm in Aberdeenshire, north Scotland. The farm consists of seven turbines and produces electricity sufficient to cover 30 per cent of the company’s UK consumption. It is the first UK purchase of a wind farm by IKEA and brings the number of turbines owned by the company to 67. |

Cel putin asta incearca sa obtina DESERTEC, un program european lansat recent prin care vor fi construite vaste centrale solare termice in Africa, Orientul Mijlociu si sudul Europei, zone reprezentand, in total, peste 55.000 de kilometri patrati de desert. |

SolarCity to retail ClipperCreek EV charging units
US solar system provider SolarCity has partnered with electric vehicle (EV) charging station manufacturer ClipperCreek to distribute EV charging units as part of the company’s retails package. According to SolarCity the combination of an EV with a residential solar system could save the average driver more than $170 per month, compared to driving a petrol-powered vehicle. |

Opel Solar, Limen partner for two Italian PV projects
US photovoltaics (PV) manufacturer Opel Solar has been contracted to supply units for two 1MW developments in Italy. The orders are worth nearly $5m and were placed by Swiss property and renewable energy joint-stock company Limen. |

Gestamp purchases two US wind farms for $130m
Gestamp Wind North America has purchased two wind farms in Maryland, US, for $130m. The facilities at Roth Rock have a combined capacity of 50MW and utilise 20 turbines. The site has been connected to the grid and 80 per cent of electricity generated will be sold to utility Delmarva through a 20-year purchase power agreement. The remainder will be sold to Maryland University and the State General Service Department. |

Westinghouse Solar sees 24 per cent revenue rise, still makes net loss
US photovoltaics company Westinghouse Solar has seen its second quarter revenues increase 24 per cent compared with the same period in 2010, and 38 per cent on the first quarter of 2011. Total revenue for the quarter was $2.7m and the first half of 2011 saw orders worth $4.8m, up 60 per cent from the $4.8m in the first two months of 2010. |

Octopus Investments finances 11 UK solar plants
UK private equity firm Octopus Investments has funded the installation of 11 large-scale photovoltaic (PV) plants in the UK all constructed in time to beat the 1 August deadline when solar feed-in tariffs (FITs) are changed. |

Spania are cel mai mare sistem gemasolar din lume
Spania a devenit tara cu cel mai mare sistem gemasolar din lume, dupa ce a construit cea mai mare centrala solara operationala 24/24 de ore. Compania Torresol Energy a raspuns astfel uneia din cele mai mari provocari a energiei solare: obtinerea acesteia chiar si atunci cand nu este soare. Centrala gemasolara de 19,9 MW construita in regiunea Andalucia functioneaza pe baza de sare, in care este stocata caldura soarelui obtinuta pe timp de zi. |

Franta lanseaza un proiect offshore de 10 miliarde euro
Guvernul francez a lansat un proiect de energie eoliana in valoare de 10 miliarde de euro, ce presupune montarea a 1.200 de turbine in 5 ferme offshore. Scopul proiectului este diversificarea surselor de energie ale tarii, care se bazeaza in proportie de 80% pe centralele nucleare. In acest fel, autoritatile franceze spera sa contribuie la atingerea planului de a obtine 23% din energia tarii din surse regenerabile, pana in 2020. |
